What is a E28A - Investor KITAS
The Investor Visa (ITAS), also known as Izin Tinggal Terbatas is a visa specifically designed for business investors in Indonesia, allowing them to live and manage their business within the country with relative ease.
Although, the Investor ITAS has actually been in effect since 2011 based on Law Number 6 Year 2011 and later edited again in 2018; it wasn’t till the rebranding in 2019 significant changes were noted – making this KITAS type one of the most popular Visa’s to possess in the country.
The benefits of opting for an Investor KITAS over a Working KITAS
According to the subsequent BKPM amendments to the Presidential decree BKPM no.5/2019, Indonesia offers further benefits to Investors residing in Indonesia. Prior to this regulation issuance it was necessary for Investors to apply for a Working KITAS (Index code 312), along with a working permit which costs US$1200 per year, as a mandatory fund.
Consequently, due to this amendment, Working Permits are no longer necessary for Investor KITAS holders – reducing the Visa outlay by US$100 monthly /$1200 annualy.
Who can obtain the Investor KITAS?
Prior to obtaining the KITAS, the company’s authorized capital should exceed 10 billion rupiah and there should be a minimum of 25% of its authorized capital paid up. For companies that were set up prior to 2009, a lower capital investment is possible. Finally, a foreign shareholder should first have a deposit with minimum value of 1 billion rupiah in personal shares invested in a PMA company and hold a title of either Director or Commissioner.
You should meet the following investment requirements to obtain an Investor Kitas:
- The investor should have a minimum of 10 billion IDR in shares invested.
- The company’s paid up capital should have a minimum of 10 billion IDR, which also has a requirement to declare minimum investment plan 10 billion IDR.
The sponsor company can start sponsoring Investors once it has obtained a business registration number (Nomor Induk Berusaha) and trading licenses (Ijin Usaha), foreign company investment realization report (LKPM, this report should be conducted every three months), company’s documents, the ID card and tax number of the company’s representative (should be valid).
If the shareholder holds no position in the PMA company, but with personal shares of over IDR 1.125.000.000 (one billion, one hundred and twenty-five thousand rupiah), you will also be eligible to apply for an Investors KITAS, however work is not permitted.

What is a E31B - Spouse KITAS
As with all Visa’s in Indonesia, they can be unnecessarily complicated and time consuming. In this guide we explain the types of Spouse Visas available, look at the benefits and give tips and advice to ensure you obtain the correct visa for your needs.
Married to an Indonesian Citizen?
The Spouse Sponsored KITAS is the Visa you are looking for if you are a foreigner married to an Indonesian Citizen. There are two available options: 1. The Spouse Sponsored KITAS (Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatus) which carries a one-year validity & 2. The Spouse Sponsored KITAP (Kartu Izin Tinggal Tetap) which carries a 5-year validity.
By obtaining the Spouse Sponsored Visa there are many perks, which include:
- Validity to stay in Indonesia for up to 5 years.
- An Indonesian ID KTP (Kartu Tanda Penuduk).
- Ability to obtain a drivers license, open bank accounts, apply for loans and credit cards.
- Eligibility to become an Indonesian Citizen.
- Eligibility for joint ownership of property with your spouse.
- Additionally, you will receive a variety of other documentation including: Multiple entry permit, Indonesian ID and a national police registration card SKLD.
If you are married to a non-Indonesian Citizen and need a Spouse Visa then you will require a Dependant Visa
The Dependant Visa works very similarly to the standard work visa (KITAS) however, you will not be required to apply for a work permit (IMTA). This Visa can vary in length and the time allowance is dependant on the primary working visa.
By obtaining the Dependant KITAS, you will be able to live in Indonesia and be able to enter and exit freely.
If you require a Dependant Visa, please contact us and we will be able to assist.
Steps to get your Spouse KITAS

What is a E31E - Dependent KITAS
If you stay in Indonesia to join a family member who holds a KITAS (Limited Stay Permit) in Indonesia, the Dependent Visa is the ideal solution. This type of Indonesia visa is available for the foreign nationals as spouses and children of the primary KITAS holder. With this visa, foreign nationals can access to various benefits when residing in Indonesia, such as opening bank accounts and registering a mobile phone.
It’s important to note that the Dependent KITAS doesn’t allow you to engage in full-time employment. However, if you decide to pursue part-time work or freelance opportunities, you can apply for an IMTA (Work Permit) and earn an income. In such cases, remember to register for an NPWP (Tax ID) and fulfill your yearly Individual Tax Report obligations.
Alternatively, if you do find a full time job, then you should apply for a Working KITAS and you can change your sponsor to your new employer.
The length of the Dependent Visa will be linked with the terms on the primary KITAS, for example, if the primary KITAS is for one year, the Dependent KITAS will be for the same longevity.

Additional Visa Services
Exit Permit Only (EPO)
If you currently hold a temporary stay permit (KITAS) in Indonesia and plan to leave the country, change jobs or change the type of KITAS you have, you will be required to apply for an Exit Permit Only (EPO).
Please note, that when your KITAS expires, it is mandatory that you apply for the EPO.
The primary purpose of the EPO is to ensure that all immigration documents are returned to the immigration office and that you are correctly removed from the records.
Some people forget or choose not to fulfil this requirement as you can still exit the country on a valid KITAS; however, if you return to Indonesia without correctly ending your visa, you may run into some problems. Please note that immigration officials have the authority to deny you access to the country if they so choose.
Therefore, we cannot express enough, how important it is, that you fulfil this mandatory requirement.
When do you have to get an EPO?
- When you leave Indonesia and have no intention of returning.
- If you decide to change employer and work for a different company.
- If you decide to change the type of KITAS form (for example a working KITAS to a retirement KITAS).
How to apply for an EPO and what are the requirements?
Although a fairly simple procedure you will be required to submit a few documents to the immigration office, which includes:
- Your original passport
- A copy of your exit flights.
- Any original documents in relation to your KITAS (for example IMTA & DPKK payment).
- We would advise not leaving this requirement to the very last minute as the process takes approximately 3 – 5 working days. Once stamped you will have to leave the country within 5 days.
Steps to get your EPO

Exit Re-Entry Permit (ERP)
For all temporary stay and permanent visas in Indonesia, such as Investor KITAS or Spouse KITAP, when the validity of your visa expires, you are required to close the visa off.
This is primarily done using what is known as an EPO (Exit Permit Only); however, this is only applicable when you are onshore. The EPO must be done prior to departure of Indonesia.
If your visa has already expired and you are no longer in the country, you are now unable to process an EPO, therefore you are required to apply for an Exit Only Permit.
