People arriving from and departing abroad via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport are getting more seamless to the latest fast Immigration inspection services. This is due to 78 new auto gate units, which the Directorate General of Immigration inaugurated on Wednesday (03/01/2023). With the auto gate facility, immigration checks only take 15-25 seconds for each passenger.

“Immigration has installed 78 new auto gates in Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, 52 in the arrival terminal and 16 in the departure terminal, and ten new auto gates in Terminal 2, 5 each in the arrival and departure terminals. Both Indonesian citizens and foreigners can use this device. “Auto gate also integrates Face Recognition technology with Border Control Management (BCM), which supports immigration supervision at crossings,” said Director General of Immigration Silmy Karim at the inauguration event.

To use the auto gate, foreign citizens must have an electronic passport and a visa, an Electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VoA) or an Electronic Visa (e-Visa) submitted via the visa. imigrasi.go.id website. Meanwhile, foreigners from 10 visa-exempted countries (ASEAN member countries) must apply for visa-free facilities at evisa.imigrasi.go.id. Foreigners can also scan their barcodes with scanner devices at Soekarno-Hatta Airport and register via the link provided to pass through using the auto gate. Meanwhile, for Indonesian citizens, electronic or regular (non-electronic) passport holders can use auto gate machines.

When undergoing an immigration check with an auto gate, users must ensure that all facial features are visible. Accessories such as hats, masks or other things covering the face must be removed first. The passport cover must also removed before scanning.

After scanning the passport biodata page, the user faces the screen at the front for facial recognition. If it has been checked and the system shows no suspicious details, the auto gate door will open, and the user can pass through the gate and continue their travel.

“The auto gate system immediately verifies a foreigner when scanning a passport, so it matches his passport data with his e-VoA, e-Visa or visa-free data. Not only does it make inspections more manageable, but the Directorate General of Immigration also prioritizes aspects of state security by connecting the border system with the Interpol and exit-entry prevention lists databases. “This is to prevent the entry of foreigners involved in crimes or other records in our database,” explained the Director General of Immigration.

Silmy added that shortly, the Directorate General of Immigration would install auto gate devices at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali and Batam, Riau Islands. The decision on the two immigration checkpoints is based on the high border-crossing traffic volume.

“Immigration continues to improve digital-based public services. We provide user experience through mobile and website-based applications, prepare border-crossing infrastructure, and integrate the system with the Immigration database. Because of this, the experience of easy and fast Immigration services will be experienced by foreign travellers who apply for their visas on the E-Visa website (evisa.imigrasi.go.id),” concluded Silmy.
